Drinks of Bermuda

Recently I took a fabulous trip to Bermuda and enjoyed many of their local drinks. Two however, stood out from the rest: The Rum Swizzle and the Dark & Stormy.

As many of you may already know, Goslings Black Seal Rum is bottled on the island and is certainly a local favorite. In fact, Gosling Brothers Liquor Store is the oldest business house on the island. Both drinks call for a selection of their rums which have a very distinct flavour due to the water and cane used as well as their specialized aging process.

Both drinks have been local favorites for over a hundred years and use regional favorites for their mixes.

The Rum Swizzle is very similar to a Bahama Mama, but not as sweet since there is a greater mixture of juices and no grenadine. The Dark & Stormy, said to be a favorite among sailors, has a great tang to the aftertaste. Very refreshing!

Here are the recipes for these two refreshing drinks.

Rum Swizzle

1/2 oz. Goslings Black Seal Rum
1/2 oz. Goslings Amber Rum
1/2 oz. Goslings Light Rum
2 oz. Orange Juice
2 oz. Mango Juice
1 oz. Grapefruit juice
1 oz. Passion fruit juice
Garnish with a slice of Mango and a mint leaf
Build over a ice in a Collins glass with ice and a straw

Dark & Stormy

1 1/2 oz. Goslings Black Seal Rum
4 oz. Ginger beer
Built over ice and served with no garnish
