With over 4 million North Americans dangerously allergic to peanuts, it's a delightful surprise to see a viable alternative for those who want the rich creamy taste and texture of peanut butter without the nuts. Golden Peabutter, an all Canadian product made from "special peas" (a new variety of peas which turn brown when ripe) and mixed with canola oil is making its way east from Alberta.

NoNuts Golden Peabutter was showcased at a recent industry trade event in Toronto - The Canadian/International Food and Beverage Show. Walking by their booth, one could easily mistake the product for yet another peanut butter brand except for the catchy title, "NoNuts", so our enquiring minds found out more.

It turns out The Canadian Council of Grocery Distributors awarded the pseudo peanut butter top prize in an annual Canada-wide grocery product contest. The "Peabutter" beat out 22 other finalists, all products introduced to the Canadian market in 2002. It spreads and tastes like the real thing - which is probably why it is getting such rave reviews.

NoNuts Peabutter is a great alternative to Peanut Butter. It is completely nut-free, gluten-free, and kosher. It is produced by Mountain Meadows Food Processing Ltd. in a totally nut free facility. Most importantly, we enjoyed the taste. In addition, in a blind taste test, those unaware that they were not consuming peanut butter found it less sweet, lighter in taste, and definitely a product they would eat again.

NoNuts Peabutter is available in select stores across Ontario, with more coming onboard daily. In addition, it is available for commercial use.
